Mahibre Kidusan, meaning “Association in the Name of Saints,” was established to honor the saints who renounced worldly life and sacrificed themselves for the Orthodox faith, fulfilling the prophecies of the prophets and the teachings of the apostles. The movement began in 1977 E.C. when a group of higher education students encouraged youth on campus to join Sunday School and learn the doctrines of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. This initiative gained momentum with the support of students trained at Zeaway Hamere Berehan St. Gabriel Clergy Training Monastery under the guidance of Archbishop Abune Gorgorious II. The spiritual revival extended to the Bilatie military camp, eventually uniting students from institutions across the country. In 1983 E.C., with the blessing of the Church Fathers, the association was officially founded as “Mahibre Kidusan” under the Sunday School Department of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, and has since provided vital spiritual service.
